Freestyle Dancing With Emphasis On Music And Body

Freestyle is a form of dancing in which there is a lot of improvisation even as the dance is being performed.  The dancer moves his body in rhythm to the music that is playing.  It is not choreographed beforehand.  Although freestyle dance forms claim to reject choreography, there is still some element of planning as the dance moves are practiced to the music being played before the actual performance.  In freestyle dance, emphasis is on the body, the music, and your mind.  Freestyle dance forms can be done by anyone.  There is no training and the person moves his body as he is inspired to by the music that is played.  Each person’s movements are therefore unique.

Listening To The Tempo Of Music In Freestyle Dancing

A freestyle dancer has to familiarize himself with the tempo or the rhythm of the song.  This helps in maintaining the beat of the song.  The beat will determine the pace of the dance movements.  The melody, not necessarily the lyrics, is important because this is the music that the dancer responds to and that sets the mood of the freestyle dance.  The dancer must listen keenly to the different patterns in the music to better respond to the music.  All freestyle dancers must have a foundational style upon which to build up their dance moves.  It is not usually possible to just get on the dance floor and figure out the moves.  Over time, the grooves and techniques improve and the dancer starts improvising and building up his dance repertoire.

Types Of Freestyle Dance Forms

Some of the popular freestyle dance forms are Breaking, Locking, Popping, Krump, Waacking, and many more.  Some of the basic dance moves in freestyle dancing are loose legs, glides, drill hits, and waves and a freestyle dancer develops his own style of freestyle dancing from these moves.  Another aspect of freestyle dancing is dynamics, that is the fast and slows, highs and lows of dance movements.  The same dance move is done differently by different persons.  Dynamics refers to the different levels of power, speed, placement of limbs, and other individual characteristics that transform the dancing from the mundane to the exciting or fascinating.

Benefits Of Freestyle Dancing

Freestyle dancing is a kind of social interaction.  It does not display the smooth polished moves of a choreographed performance, rather it is an aggressive style that is seen in clubs, concerts, and competitions.  It is considered an art form and dancers are encouraged to develop their own personal style.  Freestyle dancing is a great form of exercise as it includes aerobic and anaerobic movement.  People do not find it a chore to do this type of exercise especially if they love dancing.  The different movements like twirling, jumping, swaying, squat positions, and balancing help to exercise the different parts of the body.  It also improves the flexibility of your muscles.  Listening to music while exercising helps people to push themselves and go faster if they are jogging or walking.  Freestyle dance forms have been credited with keeping teenagers off the streets and from violence.
